Position Opening: Volunteer/Marketing Coordinator

350Deschutes is looking for a campaign & marketing coordinator. We are a Central Oregon-based nonprofit organization. Our mission is to increase awareness of climate change, to advocate for climate change stability policy, and to promote positive solutions for a JUST transition to clean energy.

You will be building a position within a growing organization dedicated to climate change awareness advocacy and education. We are a chapter of the international group, 350.org. You will work with a diverse and dedicated group of staff and volunteers. In this position you will also interact with government, college, business, and other nonprofit organizations.

This is a home-based contract position, but part of the work will be out in the community engaging with stakeholders. The contract duration is 20 hours per week. Hours are flexible, although work may be busiest during January through May. Temporary, contract, possibility of extension. $16 -$20 hourly depending on skills and experience. Vacation time is provided during unbusy times of year.

Skills desired

Desirable attributes include:

  1. Comfort with greeting individuals and businesses to talk about 350Deschutes
  2. Ability to work with others in both large and small groups
  3. Aptitude for working as a team member.
  4. Ability to work independently, and set own schedule, with guidance.
  5. Comfort in working in the fundraising arena (asking people for money, or in-kind gifts)
  6. Follow up skills (needed in order to secure resources)
  7. Good writing and speaking skills
  8. Familiarity with presentation software (e.g. Microsoft Office, powerpoint) , SKYPE
  9. Knowledge of facebook and/or other social media platforms

The campaign/marketing coordinator will work with the president, treasurer and other volunteers in scheduling and organizing events. He/she will meet with the executive director once weekly and communicate throughout the week, by phone, in person, or online to discuss progress on mutually established work plan and priorities. Tasks may include recruiting volunteers, speaking at events, and asking for support from businesses and individuals. Other tasks may include development of advertisements, promotional materials, and conference materials. Participation in occasional teleconferences and scheduled meetings is an essential part of this position. 350Deschutes sees this position as one that will grow with the organization.
